Darker ruby in color, with more depth, structure and length is the dark plum/ruby-colored 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Grande Reserve Vieilles Vignes. This is a wine made from 80% Grenache and the rest Syrah, Mourvedre, and Cinsault, with the Grenache vines well over 100 years of age. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
These are very good wines from an estate that has never left me satisfied. Perhaps it is the vintage, or perhaps things are actually looking better, but these are two nice, up-front, richly fruity, traditional Chateauneuf du Papes.
No known American importer.
