Produced from 28 hectoliter per hectare yields (extremely low by Alsatian standards), the 1997 Tokay-Pinot Gris Herrenweg offers inviting aromas of honeysuckle-laced yellow fruits. It is medium-bodied, crammed with layers of mirabelles (yellow plums), dried white raisins, and candied lemons. This forward, focused, expressive effort is concentrated and powerful. With a year or two of cellaring my score may prove to have been too conservative. Drink it between now and 2008.Importer: A Peter Vezan Selection, (Paris Fax # 011-33-1-42-55-42-93), various American importers, including: Barriques Wines, Chicago, IL; tel (773) 275-1200; Dionysus Imports, Lorton, VA; tel (703) 751-9416; North Berkeley Imports, Berkeley, CA; tel (800) 266-6585.
