The 1997 Meursault Poruzots displays fresh aromas of creamed hazelnuts. Oily layers of sweet pears and buttered toast are found in this dense, medium-to-full-bodied wine. I detected a slight dryness/chalkiness to the finish that needs to be resolved before bottling for this otherwise excellent wine to achieve a score in the upper portion of the range I attributed it. Anticipated maturity: now-2005. Francois Mikulski fashioned delightfully ripe and rich 1997s. When asked what his pH levels were like, he responded that he never had pH tests performed on his wines and was not a fan of oenologists. He added that in 1997 he neither acidified nor chaptalized any wines.
