Sporting a new label but stylistically unchanged, the 2009 Wrongo Dongo (a favorite expression of the legendary Jim Arseneault) is 100% Monastrell produced from estate vineyards. Deep crimson-colored with a pleasing nose of plum and blueberry, on the palate it has plenty of spicy fruit, an easy-going personality, and no hard edges. Basic and a little sweet and confected, but consider the price and you should be smiling. There’s some bramble and pepper to the nose, but mostly it’s just ripe and full of blackberry and black plum character. Candied and almost cloying, but remains flush and happy.
