For a number of years I have had the privilege of tasting the nearly 50-year old block of Sauvignon Blanc grapes, referred to as the I Block, from Mondavi's Tokalon Vineyard. Until 1995, this wine was blended with the Fume Blanc Reserve, but in 1995 it will be bottled separately. Unfortunately, there are only 200 cases of this zesty Sauvignon. It possesses intense fruit, crisp acidity, and plenty of that honey, melony, fig-like Sauvignon character. With airing, the texture opens to reveal multiple layers of delicate flavors.
