I enjoyed immensely the earthy, peppery, licorice, and black-cherry-scented 1995 Zinfandel Dusi Ranch. At 14.7% alcohol, no one can accuse it of being undernourished, but the wine does not come across as a late harvest Zinfandel, nor does it taste over the top, or overweight. It is a deep, ripe, full-bodied wine with copious quantities of fruit, low acidity, moderate tannin, and a fleshy, nicely-textured mouthfeel. It should drink well for 7-8 years.
The 1995 Ridge Zinfandels are made in a backward, austere style, and, with the exception of the Geyserville, Lytton Springs, and Paso Robles, they are wines that may not develop as much character as previous vintages.
