The 2007 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico is a great introduction to Verdicchio and the house style of one of the region’s reference-point producers. Sweet apricots, peaches, minerals, mint, almonds and flowers all make an appearance in this soft, caressing white. Best of all, it won’t break the bank. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012.
These whites from Sartarelli were among the most thrilling, complete wines I tasted this year. The two entry-level Verdicchios also happen to be two of the best values in Italy for whites that offer noble class and pedigree at what are very fair prices.
