The entry-level 2011 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico is a wonderfully focused, precise white. Crushed rocks, smoke, pear and lemon are all layered into the vibrant perfumed finish. A crisp, refreshing finish rounds things out nicely. Drinking well doesn’t have to cost a ton of money, a point the 2011 Verdicchio makes with great eloquence. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016.
When the mood strikes for Verdicchio, Sartarelli is often one of my go-to houses. The wines are loaded with varietal character, while the different bottlings are usually nicely differentiated and articulated.
