The 2006 Gewurztraminer Nussbaumer is refined. The aromatic components in the wine are noticeably more reserved than what is typical for the zone. On the palate it reveals beautiful ripe pears, spices, honey and jasmine with superb depth and terrific overall balance. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2010.
The town of Tramin, in the southern part of the zone, is rich in history, for it is here that Gewurztraminer was first cultivated. The Tramin estate is another of Alto Adige’s high quality cooperatives with its own heritage going back over 100 years. The entry-level wines are aged in stainless-steel and make a great introduction to the wines of Alto Adige at terrific prices. The single-vineyard selections are, of course, more distinctive, and they, too, offer outstanding quality for the money.
