This wine is a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Colorino. The Rosso di Sera (800 cases produced) spends 18 months in wood, of which 50% is new. It is made from extremely low yields of 20 hectoliters per hectare. It is bottled unfiltered. Tuscany's well-known consultant, Luca d'Attoma, assists in the winemaking.
The sumptuous 1997 Rosso di Sera is an explosive, full-bodied, magnificently concentrated wine with fabulous intensity. The saturated ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of jammy blackberries, currants, new saddle leather, chocolate, Provencal herbs, and smoky new oak. Ripe, voluptuously-textured, and low in acidity, it should drink well for 10-15 years.
