The 2007 Barbera d’Alba Superiore is an utterly joyous wine bursting with well-articulated aromatics and flavors. Despite its considerable richness and concentration, the wine reveals lovely detail and nuance, not to mention tons of balance. Sweet scents of tar, smoke, licorice and French oak linger on the finessed finish. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2015.
The small Roero estate of Annette Hilberg and Michele Pasquero is one of my favorite sources for pure, hand-crafted wines that highlight the unique qualities of this terroir. The estate’s Barbera d’Alba Superiore is often one of the region’s finest, as it is again this year.
