The 2011 Barbaresco is a pretty expression with distant lactic tones of cheese rind and white chocolate that blow off as the wine evolves in the glass. Fresh layers of cherry fruit, spice and tobacco follow suit. Although it shows moderate complexity, it does offer an easy-drinking and attractive take on Nebbiolo. Drink: 2015-2020.
Verduno is Barolo's most promising township with distinctive wines that boast spice and bright fruit. This year, I tasted the estate's Barbaresco, although it does offer a full line of wines, including a Barolo Monvigliero Riserva. In addition to its winemaking efforts, the estate includes one of the best restaurants in the region. I highly recommend that you book a table here on a sunny spring day under the giant cherry tree in the back yard.
