The 2009 Barbaresco Nubiola blossoms on the palate with juicy dark cherries, flowers and spices, all of which come together in a voluptuous style that is highly appealing. Layers of dark, spice-infused fruit swirl around in the glass all the way through to the huge, voluptuous finish. This plush, layered Barbaresco is inviting and offers pure sophistication from the very first taste. Pelissero aged the Nubiola in a blend of cask and barrique. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.
Pelissero is without question one of the top-tier estates in Barbaresco. Every wine in this lineup is solid and well worth seeking out. In particular, the 2009 Barbareschi are some of the very finest wines I have ever tasted here. The management of the tannins – such a problem at other estates – was expertly handled. Pelissero’s 2010 Barbareschi had been bottled just before my visit and were too closed down to properly evaluate.
