Fallers’ 2007 Gewurztraminer Furstentum Cuvee Laurence smells hauntingly of iris and rose, litchi and musk melon, brown spices and black tea. Creamy and luscious though overtly sweet, it envelops the palate with pit fruit preserves, melon, and litchi, exhibiting an almost candied sense of spice and caramel yet just enough vivacity to keep its undeniably long finish from becoming cloying. This embryonic, sweet concentrate of Gewurztraminer will not only keep well for at least two decades, I would be inclined not to even revisit it for the first of them. This year, Domaine Weinbach will receive its official certification as organic and biodynamic growers. The Fallers did well in the difficult 2006 vintage – especially with those Gewurztraminer harvested before botrytis gained the upper hand – and with good reason expressed elation over the vibrancy and refinement that characterizes most of 2007s.Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; tel.
