Subdued black fruits, licorice, spices and smoky notes hint at the rewards cellaring will bring to this deep, rather brooding wine. The palate feel is big, but even and smoothly textured, while the finish is long, with full, supple tannins. Large-scaled and still closed, this dark, toasty and tasty wine needs a year or two to open. Best after 2003. ——W.E.(2/1/2002)—— 89
