Already bottled, the 1999 Cotes du Rhone Villages Cuvee Trois Cepages (equal parts Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre) is an opaque purple-colored effort with a meaty, licorice, and smoky-scented nose, sweet blackberry and cassis fruit flavors, good acidity, full body, and impressive concentration as well as length. It achieved 14.7% natural alcohol, and will easily evolve for 10, perhaps 15 years. This is a very impressive, unfiltered wine with a style not dissimilar from, but even more concentrated than some of the blockbuster vintages of Chateau de Fonsalette. Don't miss this exceptional wine!
