Foxen’s 2005 Pinot Noirs are more restrained, streamlined, and neither as powerful nor impressive as their 2004s, but they will be admired by those looking for more subtlety and elegance. My favorite of this trio is the 2005 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard Block Eight. Its dark ruby color is followed by sweet aromas of cherries, currants, strawberries, spice, earth, and a hint of oak. Medium-bodied, with supple tannin, decent acidity, and fine purity, it is a delicious Pinot to drink now or cellar for 5-6 years.
