The 1991 Pickberry Proprietary Red Wine (a blend of approximately two-thirds Merlot and the reminder mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with a tiny dollop of Cabernet Franc) is another great success for this luxury-priced proprietary wine. The opaque ruby/purple color is followed by intense aromas of chocolate, cassis, herbs, and meaty scents. Deep and full-bodied, with high tannin, fine acidity, and superb richness, this wine will benefit from 2-4 years of cellaring; it will last for 20 years. Although most consumers are fanatically attached to this winery's terrific Zinfandels, Ravenswood also does other things well.
