More serious is the bigger, richer 2012 Zinfandel Ancient Vine, which boasts a dark ruby/purple color as well as peppery, black cherry and black raspberry fruit, and a touch of spicy oak. It was aged eight months in one-third new American oak.
I have been tasting Cline Cellars’ wines for many years and clearly remember their debut releases offering great value. They then went through a mixed qualitative period where the wine quality seemed to have slumped. However, over the last few years they have come back with a vengeance, and now Cline Cellars has become a value hunter’s treasure trove. All in all, this is a very impressive line-up of value-priced wines that readers should take seriously.
