Much better are the 2011 and 2010 Ancient Vines Zinfandels. This wine spends about eight months in American oak, and both vintages look very good. They are also quite similar in style. Medium-bodied, with good acid, sweet berry fruit, some pepper, incense and spice, the 2011 seems just a tad fresher.
This value winery has turned out a bevy of competent wines, the brightest of them being their old vine Zinfandels.
