The 2005 Shiraz is purple-colored with an alluring perfume of cedar, wood smoke, pepper, and blueberry muffin. The wine has ample spicy fruit, but narrows on the mid-palate. The finish is fruit-filled but clipped. The family owned Schild Estate dates back to the early 1950s. Their vineyard holdings now encompass 380 acres. The first Schild Estate wines were produced in 1998.Importer: Deborah Gray, The Australian Wine Connection, Carlsbad, CA; www.schildestate.com.au; Also tasted: 2005 Merlot (84), 2005 Sparkling Shiraz (90)
