The 2009 Langhe Nebbiolo makes for a great introduction to the house style. Classic Nebbiolo aromas waft from the glass. Dark red cherries, crushed flowers, licorice and mint are given an extra shade of dimension in this fabulous, textured Nebbiolo. A rich, totally seductive finish makes it hard to resist a second taste. This is easily the equal of many a Barolo or Barbaresco. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. This is a head-spinning set of wines from Luigi Pira from top to bottom. I would be thrilled to drink any of these wines any day of the week. As always, Pira favors a style based on textural richness. At their best, the wines show an equal amount of elegance.
