There are 1,000 cases of the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon To-Kalon Reserve. Fashioned from 31-year old vines, it is a powerful, firmly structured offering revealing notes of charcoal, creamy black currants, loamy soil, and tobacco leaf. Although its pH of 3.78 is relatively high, seemingly suggesting a more forward style, it is broodingly backward and less accessible than the Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s a classic Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon that may not be quite as generous or complex as the Reserve or perhaps the M-Bar, but it is almost too backward to fully evaluate at present. Give it 5-6 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 20-25 years.
