The 2018 Pommard 1er Cru Clos de Verger is showing very well, unfurling to reveal aromas of cherries and cassis mingled with sweet soil tones, burning embers, peonies and baking chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and velvety, its nicely concentrated core of fruit is underpinned by lively acids. From a south-facing site that's sheltered from the morning sun, this is promising.
