This proved to be an uninspiring group of wines. I should note, however, that barrel samples of the 1992s revealed more character, so perhaps Austin Cellars is turning over a new leaf. The 1991 Sauvignon Blanc-Lucas Vineyard is far better than the reserve bottling, with an intense, grassy, melony, pungent nose, lush, honeyed, melony, fruity flavors, and a crisp, long finish. It is the most interesting wine in this portfolio, but some readers may find the grassiness overblown. Tel. (805) 688-9665
