This is one of the few Russian River wineries still producing a Cabernet Sauvignon, and from the lower sections of this vineyard, Dehlinger fashioned the 2002 Claret. Although it displays 90 point aromatics, the wine’s texture and flavors are not as impressive. A deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by a knock-out nose of creme de cassis, licorice, and flint. The wine is medium-bodied, but trails off in the finish. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. Kudos to Tom Dehlinger, a guy who seems to be content to stay under the radar and simply make an assortment of very fine as well as realistically priced wines!
