Diel’s 2004 Dorsheimer Pittermannchen Riesling Grosses Gewachs offers an unusually low-toned aroma of toasted nuts, peach kernel, and wet stones. The palate impression is compact and austere – the opposite of juicy and ingratiating - but impressively nutty and stony, with persistent, palate-staining peach kernel and toasted nut finishing flavors. I’d give it a few months to open up. Incidentally, readers with the requisite disposable income are urged to explore Diel’s 2003 T.B.A. (from the Pittermanchen), which was unfortuitously also being bottled the day I visited.
