The 2006 Brancott Valley Pinot Noir is adorned with rounded red-berried fruit on the nose: raspberry, strawberry, a touch of vanilla and mocha. Good definition and purity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very natural and unassuming, not a powerful Pinot but one with more than sufficient finesse and refinement, plus a silky smooth finish that is most endearing. Lovely.
This was my first visit to Fromm, whose winery is based just outside Blenheim. Winemaker Hatsch Kalberer is a charismatic figure: utterly obsessed with wine and an open-minded view to what constitutes a great one.
