The 1985 Clos du Marquis is the finest mature example of this label that I've tasted, reflecting the success of its senior sibling, Léoville-Las Cases, in this vintage. Offering up rich aromas of cassis, cherries, cigar wrapper and loamy soil, it's medium to full-bodied, generous and fleshy, with a concentrated core of fruit, ripe tannins and superb definition. From a cold cellar, it is only just entering its plateau of maturity.
