The 2006 Brunus is composed of 60% Carinena, 25% Garnacha, and 15% Syrah. The wine was aged for 8 months in equal quantities of French and American oak, 80% new before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Inky purple-colored, it delivers a lovely perfume of cedar, pencil lead, violets, blueberry, and black cherry. This leads to a medium to full-bodied, plush wine with layers of ripe fruit, enough structure for 2-3 years of further evolution, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. Drink it from 2010-2025.
Portal del Montsant is a new estate started by Barcelona architect Alfredo Arribas in 2001 with his purchase of the Mas de Portal property. He hired the experienced Ricard Rofes as winemaker. The estate is being farmed organically.
