The 2009 Brunus is a blend of 45% Carinena, 35% Garnacha and 20% Syrah raised in 225 and 500-litre new French barrels for 10 months. It comes across as very oaky on the nose, although the vintage has afforded sufficient fruit to carry it forward. The palate is full-bodied with grainy, tensile tannins, and it possesses a keen citric thread that cuts through its introspective dark fruit on the finish. My only complaint is that it lacks some persistency compared to some of its peers. Drink 2014-2018.
