Offering aromas and flavors of olive, herbed meats and leather, with juicy acidity, it’s a well-made Cote Rotie. Better, the 2003 Cote Rotie Maison Rouge is borderline outstanding. Black fruits, road tar, cracked pepper and hints of singed leather all flow from this medium-bodied, fresh and lively effort. Drink it over the coming 4-5 years.
While I generally feel Condrieu show best in their first 3-5 years of life, all three of these efforts from Georges Vernay were stunning. They certainly make me open up my drink windows on these wines.
