The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Gualto is one of the finest wines I have ever tasted from Camigliano and this part of Montalcino. Freshly cut flowers, minerals, dark cherries, smoke, licorice and tar are just some of the notes that emerge from this finely-chiseled gem of a Brunello. In 2005 the Gualto shows tons of precision and finesse in a medium-bodied style that nevertheless possesses plenty of textural depth and richness. Subtle hints of toasted French oak linger on the close. It is a marvelous effort from Camigliano. This drop-dead gorgeous wine from Camigliano is what Brunello di Montalcino should be.
