Fashioned from equal parts Syrah (aged in barrel) and Mourvedre (aged in tank), the 2003 Costieres de Nimes Les Enfants Terribles exhibits a deep ruby/purple color along with pure aromas of black currants, cherries, and dry, earthy/underbrush scents. Some austere tannin is noticeable in this medium-bodied, dense effort’s finish (no doubt attributable to the Mourvedre component), but it can be drunk now or cellared for 4-6 years. Mas Carlot is situated in the Costieres de Nimes (they use the VDP d’Oc designation because they are not entitled to use the appellation designation when the grape varietals are listed on the label). The value and high quality of their offerings are undeniable.Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083
