The 2008 Syrah Lolita Ranch boasts gorgeous textural richness and depth. Juicy black cherries, plums, olives, savory herbs and spices flow effortlessly from the glass. The fruit shows tremendous depth and density from start to finish. Layers of dark fruit continue to build in the glass, accented by brighter floral and white pepper notes that add lift. The Lolita Ranch clocks in at 16.8% alcohol, all of which it seems to handle very well. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2023. Martinelli is one of the original pioneering families in Sonoma. I tasted a wide range of wines during a recent visit. The 2008 Syrahs, from a challenging vintage, are a bit up and down, but the rest of the wines are all outstanding.
