Enzo Rapalino's 2016 Barbera d'Alba Superiore is a thick and darkly concentrated expression with dried blackberry, plum and crushed aspirin. Despite the dry and linear aromas of this wine from La Ganghija, there is a surprising note of cherry or blackberry sweetness that pops up on the palate. This wine is a lot of fun, taking you on unexpected twists and turns but concluding with your hunger in mind. I could see this Barbera as an accompaniment to a hearty plate of fettuccine alla bolognese.
