The 2011 Gravina Bianco, from an obscure indigenous variety, is yet another terrific example of the delicious, value-priced wines Italy is capable of. Lemon, savory herbs, crushed rocks are some of the many nuances that unfold in this eccentric, beautiful white. Readers won’t find too many better wines for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2014.
Botromagno is another estate that is enjoying a resurgence in quality. Alberto Antonini oversees winemaking.
