The least expensive offering, the 2009 Vacqueyras Cuvee Signature is a blend of 55% Grenache, 35% Syrah and the rest Mourvedre and Carignan aged in concrete tanks and bottled unfiltered. This delicious wine possesses a dense purple color along with amazing untuosity and thickness, layers of fruit and plenty of garrigue, licorice, barbecue smoke, lavender, cassis and kirsch characteristics. The silkiness and front end-loaded appeal of this vintage should continue to provide sumptuous drinking for another 5-6 years.
Domaines des Amouriers, owned by the Chudzikiewicz family, has been one of the most reliable and consistent producers of top-flight Vacqueyras for many years. They have a total of 75 acres of vines of which 37 are in Vacqueyras, an up-and-coming appellation increasingly prized for consistency and high quality.
