The luxury cuvees of St.-Joseph Les Granites include what may be the finest St.-Josephs I have ever tasted. The 1995 St.-Joseph Les Granites possesses less acidity than the 1996, is more supple, and less massive, but it is an amazingly fabulous, sweet tasting (from ripe fruit, not sugar) wine with layers of cassis fruit. Made from an 80-year old 5-acre parcel situated behind the village of Mauves, the 1995 comes across as both elegant and powerful - the quintessential St.-Joseph - the likes of which I have never before tasted. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2010.
