The dark ruby-colored 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape reveals a textbook spicy, peppery, herbes de Provence nose with sweet, jammy black cherry fruit. The wine is round, generous, fruity, and ideal for drinking over the next 5-6 years.
Domaine de Ferrand may be an estate worth watching. The young vigneron, Philippe Bravay, has begun to estate bottle the production from this 5 hectare (12+ acres) estate located in the northern sector of Chateauneuf du Pape, in what is known as the Quartier de Gres. Previously, the wines were sold to the negociant Bernard. The 1996 vintage is the first harvest to be controlled completely by the estate.
