The 2007 La Strada Chardonnay works well on the nose, with good definition, some crisp stony accents, touches of citrus lemon and a hint of dried apricot and orange-blossom. The palate is medium-bodied with good acidity, nice balance with well-defined citrus, apply fruit. Touches of pineapple just towards the finish that is short, but still, as an entry-level Chardonnay I would not ask for anything more.
This was my first visit to Fromm, whose winery is based just outside Blenheim. Winemaker Hatsch Kalberer is a charismatic figure: utterly obsessed with wine and an open-minded view to what constitutes a great one.
