I was unimpressed by the red wines of Castillo de Monjardin but its 2005 Chardonnay Unoaked “El Cerezo” is a great value. This single vineyard Chardonnay from low yields of 2 tons per acre was fermented and aged in stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation. Light gold in color, it exhibits an excellent nose of mineral, green apple, and pear. Medium-bodied, with crisp acidity and excellent concentration, this tasty chardonnay would be a fine match for shellfish and flaky fish courses.
