The 2004 Camille is a blend of 64% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Franc, and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose offers up toasty oak, some pleasant herbaceousness from the Cabernet Franc, as well as red and black currants and a hint of leather. On the palate there is excellent depth and concentration, broad spicy flavors, and a long, pure finish. The ripe tannins are nicely integrated and should allow for 5-7 years of further development. This classy effort should drink well through 2040. The good news is that the best is yet to come at Nicholas Cole. I tasted from barrel three 2005 Bordeaux-style blends, one of which is from 100% estate fruit, which were all exhibiting outstanding potential, and a scintillating 2005 estate Syrah which should ultimately be in the (94-96 point) range. The latter is scheduled for release in October, 2007.Tel. (509) 525-0608; www.nicholascolecellars.com
