The 2012 Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Clos du Chapitre has a very pure bouquet with ripe crushed strawberry, boysenberry jam and rose petals that are very well-defined. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, almost chalky tannins. There is fine weight in the mouth, quite backward compared to others at this stage, with a dash of white pepper on the finish.
I have been an admirer of Pierre Morey’s wines since he was crafting magic at Anne-Claude Leflaive between 1988 and 1998. Since he departed, his own domaine has continued producing top notch white Burgundy in parallel with his successful negociant operation, “Morey Blanc”. There are 10 hectares of vines within the domaine that has adopted biodynamic principles since 1998. I met with his daughter Anne Morey, who immediately apologized for the lack of samples due to the tiny quantities produced. Like many, there were affected by the travails of the growing season but Anne seemed positive about the wines. “There is good depth in 2012 and there is great terroir expression and great density,” she opined.
