The 1995 and 1994 red Crozes-Hermitage are made from 5-6 year old Syrah vines, with modest yields of 40 hectoliters per hectare. These are light ruby-colored, medium-bodied wines to drink over the next 3-4 years. All of Sorrel's red wines are bottled with no fining or filtration. The 1994 is softer, with more fruit and less of a vegetal character, whereas the 1995 is more acidic, leaner, and compact on the palate. The difficult vintages of 1992 and 1993 have been followed by two very good Rhone Valley vintages. Sorrel has several cuvees of Crozes-Hermitage made from a relatively young vineyard. Although the Marsanne vines are 50 years old, the Syrah vines are less than a decade old. Both the red and white wines should be drunk within its first 3-4 years of the vintage. For whatever reason, the wines of Marc Sorrel have remained undervalued, and to a large extent, ignored in the American marketplace. The numerous importer changes he has endured have only exacerbated the problem of finding Sorrel's wines.Importer: New Castle Imports, Myrtle Beach, SC; tel. (803) 497-8625
