The 2006 Finca Remota is 100% Malbec sourced from a newly acquired, 60 year old, ungrafted vineyard. It received the “200% new oak” treatment, spending its first 12 months in 100% new Taransaud barrels before racking to a new set of 100% new Taransaud barrels for another six months. Opaque purple/black in color, it delivers a superb aromatic array of pain grille, mineral, violets, black cherry, and blueberry. Surprisingly light on its feet for its size, with the oak nicely integrated, it has layers of flavor, terrific depth and concentration, serious aging potential, and a 60-second finish. Drink it from 2012 to 2026. Mendel’s talented winemaker is Roberto de la Mota of Cheval de los Andes fame.Importer: Vine Connections, Sausalito, CA; tel. (415) 332-8466
