The opaque purple-colored 2000 Vacqueyras is spectacular, with low acidity, super-ripe fruit, and layers of concentration. This is Vacqueyras on steroids, with extraordinary richness, from the firework aromatics to sumptuous flavors. Yet there is not a component out of place. The 2000 should easily last for ten years, but who will be able to resist the compelling charms that already exist? Other than the superb negociant Tardieu-Laurent (in the beautiful medieval village of Lourmarin), I cannot think of anyone else producing Vacqueyras of such richness and intensity as Sang des Cailloux.
