The more Syrah I taste from Santa Barbara, the more I think this varietal should be planted at the expense of further Pinot Noir. Santa Barbara Syrahs appear to possess a natural richness and classic varietal character that is not always apparent in the region's Pinot Noirs. The 1995 Syrah Tepusquet Vineyard displays a dense ruby/purple color, followed by an alluring blackberry and cassis-scented nose with notes of smoke, tar, and pepper. In the mouth, it is medium-bodied and round, with a lush texture and an easy to understand personality. The finish is all silky tannin and ripe fruit. This forward-styled Syrah should be consumed over the next 7-8 years. Tel. (888) 339-9463 Fax. (805) 934-3589
