I am happily cheered by the menthol and medicinal herbs that pop up on the bouquet of the Fratelli Abrigo 2014 Barolo Ravera. This vintage was panned at first due to the very difficult conditions of the growing season (with long cold spells and lots of humidity); however, when the wines were eventually released, the 2014 Baroli surprised us all. It is nice to return to this vintage and see how integral and whole this wine remains. Wild berry, rose, licorice and cola appear as light background notes on this very streamlined and lean-bodied Nebbiolo. This wine is graceful and delicate. Extended fermentation on the skins lasts up to 30 days, and the wine is aged in traditional large oak casks. Some 4,000 bottles were released back in 2018.
