The 2013 Villemaurine has a slightly austere bouquet with a light sea spray influence mixed with gravel. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple opening and more flesh than the aromatics suggest. Smooth and quite harmonious, it is a Saint Emilion that starts in modest fashion but ends with a bit of a kick. This is a satisfying if unspectacular Villemaurine, but I wager that a decade ago, this fast-improving estate would have produced a far more inferior wine than this 2013. In that way, it should be considered a success.
